After WW2, stories about superheroes began to see a decline, but during The Silver Age of comics (1956 - circa 1970) superheroes claimed new fame after DC comics decided to reimagine their stories from the ground up.
First appearing in Adventure Comics #229 (Oct. 1959), Arthur Curry was the son of Tom Curry, a lighthouse keeper, and Atlanna, a water-breathing outcast from the lost city of Atlantis. As a child, Arthur discovers his super abilities to communicate with sea life, surviving underwater, and extreme swimming power. He decides to harness these abilities to protect the oceans and becomes Aquaman. Together with Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, Aquaman was one of the founding members of The Justice League of America.
