DC Designs by Jim Shore - Scarlet Speedster

After WW2, stories about superheroes began to see a decline, but during The Silver Age of comics (1956 - circa 1970) superheroes claimed new fame after DC comics decided to reimagine their stories from the ground up.

First appearing in Showcase #4 (Oct. 1956), Barry Allen is a police chemist who is known for being slow and late, until a shelf of chemicals spills on him after being struck by lightning. From this, Barry develops super speed and senses which he uses to become Central City’s resident crimefighter. Allen, decides to call himself Scarlet Speedster as an homage to the Golden Age Flash, Jay Garrick. Silver Age Flash was the first of the DC characters to introduce their new parallel world setting them apart from the characters of the Golden Age. Allen found himself as one of the original members of the Justice League of America with Batman even being quoted as once saying, "Barry is the kind of man that I would've hoped to become if my parents had not been murdered."
